Bill Clinton: “I was actually listening closely to what the candidates said in these debates. In the first debate, the triumph of the moderate Mitt Romney. You remember what he did? He ridiculed the President. Ridiculed the President for his efforts to fight global warming in economically beneficial ways. He said ‘Oh, you’re going to turn back the seas.’ In my part of America, we would like it if someone could’ve done that yesterday. All up and down the East Coast, there are mayors, many of them Republicans, who are being told, ‘You’ve got to move these houses back away from the ocean. You’ve got to lift them up. Climate change is going to raise the water levels on a permanent basis. If you want your town insured, you have to do this.’ In the real world, Barack Obama’s policies work better.” (Bill Clinton, Remarks, Minneapolis, MN, 10/30/12)

Hugh Hewitt: Last question, Senator, if the majority goes back to the Republicans in the Senate, will there be an investigation that requires answers be given to all the questions that you’ve raised led by a United States Senate committee?
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ): I promise you as the person who would be the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will not rest. And I will not rest, because the American people cannot be deceived like this. We are in a very dangerous world as you know, Hugh. You look all around the world, and you don’t have to have me describe it to you. But a far more dangerous world than we were in four years ago. And the American people deserve answers. The families of these four brave Americans deserve answers. And I promise you that we will achieve that.
Hewitt: Senator, will you put Mr. Brennan and Mr. Clapper under oath with regards to these matters?
McCain: Absolutely. I promise you that that will happen if we can get the majority. And I hope that our dear friends in Montana are listening. We need to win that race. Denny Rehberg is our candidate, right?

Andrea Mitchell Criticizes Romney For Gathering Donations For Red Cross

On MSNBC this afternoon, anchor Andrea Mitchell ripped Mitt Romney for gathering donations of food and clothes, among other items, to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy at an event in Ohio today.
"How do they handle this? And then you have the image of Mitt Romney, doing what they say is not a campaign event, in the same space they were going to hold a campaign event. They say they are making collections for hurricane and storm relief," Mitchell ranted on her MSNBC program today.
"Chris Cillizza, first to you," Mitchell continued. "We checked with the Red Cross. The Red Cross said, well, they are always grateful for donations, but this is not what they need or want. That they always tell people, please donate money, because we have our own packagers, wholesalers. They have their own distribution system. And to now get these canned goods from the Romney event in Ohio, and have to first package it--used clothes, they have to clean, they can't go directly to victims. So, what they need is donations of blood and donations of money. It does seem like a thinly veiled -- why Ohio? Why choose Ohio for?"
"Because the storm is not in," Cillizza said, before being cut off by Mitchell.
"Not in Ohio?," she said.
However, earlier today, Ann Romney did urge donations to the Red Cross at a campaign event in Wisconsin.

Sullivan: If Romney Wins Virginia And Florida, "It's The Confederacy"

"If Virginia and Florida go back to the Republicans, it's the Confederacy. Entirely. You put the map of the Civil War over this electoral map, you've got the Civil War. Am I wrong?" Andrew Sullivan said on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday.
"Democrats have been losing the white vote constantly since 1964, so that's not new," George Will responded, rolling his eyes.
"A lot of white people who voted for Obama in 2008 watched him govern for four years and said, 'Not so good, let's try someone else.' The alternative, the Confederacy hypothesis, is those people somehow for some reason in the last four years became racist," Will retorted.
Gingrich: Obama Canceling Trips For Hurricane, Didn't Cancel Over Benghazi

GINGRICH: But the bigger issue is, whether it's unemployment or it is what's happened in Benghazi, where we've had this strange story over the weekend that the secretary of defense apparently refused to obey the president's order. If the president is telling the truth and he actually instructed his assistants to get aid to Benghazi, we're now being told that the secretary of defense canceled that.
And I think these kind of things all drag down the Obama campaign. You'll notice he's canceling his trips over the hurricane. He did not cancel his trips over Benghazi. And so you have to wonder, between Benghazi, the price of gasoline, and unemployment, just how much burden the president's going to carry into this last week.
House Candidate Ann Wagner Gives GOP Weekly Address On Obama's "Failed Presidency"

Hello, I'm Ann Wagner from the heartland in St. Louis, Missouri.
“I grew up around here, working from a very young age at the small retail carpet business my parents started. I vacuumed, tagged sale items – worked my way up to the showroom floor. As it happens, that's where I met a young man, working his way through high school, named Ray – who today is my husband of 25 years and the father of our three beautiful children.
“We are truly blessed, but like so many of you, we worry for the future. Our economy is hurting, our national debt is exploding, and the president’s policies are making things worse. Americans deserve leaders who will keep their promises and won't let up until our future is secure and our economy is strong.
“That’s why I’m supporting Mitt Romney, and it’s why I’m asking for the support of the people of Missouri’s Second Congressional District.
“As a first-time candidate, I do a lot of listening. For all the fear out there, the one thing I hear most often is, ‘we can do better.’ It’s what our parents taught us. I can remember watching mine toil morning, noon, and night. I saw my father deal with every headache the government threw his way – whether it had to do with the signs on the front of the building or the prices on the showroom floor. He knew he could do better, if government would just get out of the way – and stay out of the way. He was right. When we get government off the backs of our job creators, small businesses have a better chance of thriving. And when small businesses thrive, so does our economy.
“That’s why, instead of raising taxes, we ought to fix our 72,000-page monstrosity of a tax code so we can keep jobs here and bring jobs home that have gone overseas. We should repeal the president’s health care law – which makes it harder for small businesses to hire – and replace it with reforms that actually lower costs and protect the doctor-patient relationship. And instead of giving in to high gas and energy prices let’s jumpstart the development of America’s vast domestic energy resources. Let’s build the Keystone pipeline, let’s expand the exploration and use of natural gas and coal.
“These are all good ideas that Mitt Romney supports, but President Obama has ignored or rejected. That’s disappointing, especially considering how his policies have failed. He promised to listen, promised us change, but all we’ve gotten is more of the same. More spending, more red tape, more debt and decline. A loss of hope.
“The United States Senate, run by the president’s party, hasn't passed a budget in more than three-and-a-half years. That is irresponsible and reckless.
“Now, the president is demanding another tax increase on small businesses that would destroy more than 700,000 jobs and drive our economy off the fiscal cliff.
“In Missouri, we count on coal for 82 percent of our electricity. President Obama's war on coal is threatening higher electricity prices for families and job creators.
“We cannot go on like this. This election is not about President Obama the person, it’s about his failed Presidency and failed leadership. Our country is going in the wrong direction – and Mitt Romney is the only leader who can turn this economy around, get Americans back to work and build the better America our parents worked and sacrificed to make possible.
“That's the opportunity before us. And it’s the one we must seize, for the sake of our children and the future of our great nation.
“God bless your families, and my God continue to bless the United States of America.”

"It affects both of them," CNN contributor Roland Martin said about the impact of a massive storm brewing on the east coast on the presidential race. "Remember, early voting is one thing, but what do you do if you have significant damage? If you have American loss of life and you still have commercials up on television, you're pounding away at each other. For the president, I think it actually helps him a little bit more, because remember he's a sitting president. He gets to be be presidential. He might have to tour these areas, talk to residents, declare emergency areas as well."

Reporter Presses Obama On Libya Attack, "Bullshitter" Comment

KYLE CLARK, KUSA-TV: Were the Americans under attack at the consulate in Benghazi Libya denied requests for help during that attack? And is it fair to tell Americans that what happened is under investigation and we'll all find out after the election?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, the election has nothing to do with four brave Americans getting killed and us wanting to find out exactly what happened. These are folks who served under me who I had sent to some very dangerous places. Nobody wants to find out more what happened than I do. But we want to make sure we get it right, particularly because I have made a commitment to the families impacted as well as to the American people, we're going to bring those folks to justice. So, we're going to gather all the facts, find out exactly what happened, and make sure that it doesn't happen again but we're also going to make sure that we bring to justice those who carried out these attacks.
KYLE CLARK: Were they denied requests for help during the attack?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, we are finding out exactly what happened. I can tell you, as I've said over the last couple of months since this happened, the minute I found out what was happening, I gave three very clear directives. Number one, make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to. Number two, we're going to investigate exactly what happened so that it doesn't happen again. Number three, find out who did this so we can bring them to justice. And I guarantee you that everyone in the state department, our military, the CIA, you name it, had number one priority making sure that people were safe. These were our folks and we're going to find out exactly what happened, but what we're also going to do it make sure that we are identifying those who carried out these terrible attacks.
KYLE CLARK: In a national address, you touted the stimulus money going to Abound Solar - a Colorado company connected to one of your billionaire fundraisers. Now, as you may know, Abound Solar is out of business and under criminal investigation. The jobs are gone and taxpayers are out about 60 million dollars. How do you answer critics who see Abound Solar as Colorado's Solyndra - a politically connected clean energy company that went under and took our money with it?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: (Laughs) Well, Kyle, I think that if you look at our record that these loans that are given out by the Department of Energy for clean energy have created jobs all across the country and only about four percent of these loans were going to some very cutting-edge industries that are going to allow us to figure out how to produce energy in a clean, renewable way in the future and create jobs in Colorado and all around the country. And some of them have failed but the vast majority of them are pushing us forward into a clean energy direction. And that's good for Colorado and good for the country. And these are decisions, by the way, that are made by the Department of Energy, they have nothing to do with politics.

KYLE CLARK: Mr. President, you've called for more civility in our nation's political conversation - and much has obviously been made about the tone of this race. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, you called Governor Romney a "bullshitter." What did you mean and why did you choose that word?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: You know, this was a conversation after an interview, a casual conversation with a reporter. The basic point that I've been talking about throughout this campaign, is people know what I mean and they know that I mean what I say and what I care about, who I'm fighting for and you know a major issue in any election is can you count on the person you're putting into the Oval Office fighting for you having a clear set of convictions that they believe in.

Obama Touts Wall Street Reform, Consumer Watchdog In Weekly Address
Posted by Bag My Items

Hi, everybody. It’s now been four years since a crisis that began on Wall Street spread to Main Street, hammering middle-class families and ultimately costing our economy 9 million jobs.
Since then, we’ve fought our way back. Our businesses have added more than 5 million new jobs. The unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest level since I took office. Home values are rising again. And our assembly lines are humming once more.
And to make sure America never goes through a crisis like that again, we passed tough new Wall Street reform to end taxpayer-funded bailouts for good.
Wall Street reform also created the first-ever independent consumer watchdog, whose sole job is to look out for you.
That means making sure you’ve got all the information you need to make important financial decisions like buying a home or paying for college. And it means going after anyone who tries to take advantage of you, or rip you off.
Starting this month, that includes the folks who come up with your credit score.
If you haven’t checked out your credit score recently, you should. It can have a major impact on your life. It can determine whether or not you qualify for a loan or what kind of interest you have to pay. It can even affect your chances at renting an apartment or getting a job.
But here’s the thing: the companies that put your credit score together can make mistakes. They may think you had a loan or a credit card that was never yours. They may think you were late making payments when you were on time. And when they mess up, you’re the one who suffers.
Until this week, if you had a complaint, you took it to the company. Sometimes they listened. Sometimes they didn’t. But that was pretty much it. They were your only real hope.
Not anymore. If you have a complaint about your credit score that hasn’t been properly addressed, you can go to consumerfinance.gov/complaint and let the consumer watchdog know.
Not only will they bring your complaint directly to the company in question, they’ll give you a tracking number, so you can check back and see exactly what’s being done on your behalf.
And fixing your credit score isn’t the only thing they can help with.
If you’re opening a bank account, trying to get a student loan, or applying for a credit card and something doesn’t seem right, you can let them know and they’ll check it out.
If you’re looking to buy a home, and you want to know if you’re getting a fair deal on your mortgage, you can give them a call and they’ll get you an answer.
Their only mission is to fight for you. And when needed, they’ll take action.
For example, alongside other regulators, they recently ordered three big credit card companies to return more than $400 million to folks who were deceived or misled into buying things they didn’t want or didn’t understand.
That’s what Wall Street reform is all about – looking out for working families and making sure that everyone is playing by the same rules.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t been enough to stop Republicans in Congress from fighting these reforms. Backed by an army of financial industry lobbyists, they’ve been waging an all-out battle to delay, defund and dismantle these new rules.
I refuse to let that happen.
I believe that the free market is one of the greatest forces for progress in human history, and that the true engine of job creation in this country is the private sector, not the government.
But I also believe that the free market has never been about taking whatever you want, however you can get it. Alongside our innovative spirit, America only prospers when we meet certain obligations to one another, and when we all play by the same set of rules.
We’ve come too far – and sacrificed too much – to go back to an era of top-down, on-your-own economics. And as long as I’m President, we’re going to keep moving this country forward so that everyone – whether you start a business or punch a clock – can have confidence that if you work hard, you can get ahead.
